Birding at Inle Lake In Shan State

Inle Lake which is located 900 meters above sea level, the vast picturesque lake, is one of the main tourist attractions in Myanmar. The lake, 22 km long and 10 km wide, has a population of some over 160,000, many of whom live on floating islands of vegetation. Inle natural Lake is famous for its scenic beauty and the unique leg-rowing of the Inthas, the native lake dwellers. There are some places to visit. Birding in a boat at Inle Lake is so exciting to watch the bird and enjoy seeing its unique one-leg rowers, floating villages and colourful markets, silk weaving and hand-looms.

Some famous species at Inle Lake are Jerdon’s Bushchat, Collared Myna and Ruddy Shelduck, Comb Duck, Lesser Whistling Duck, Fulvous Whistling Duck, Spot-billed Duck, Cotton Pygmy Goose, Northern Pintail, Gadwall, Garganey, Mallard, Little Grebe, Coppersmith Barbet, Indian Roller, Common Kingfisher, Blue-eared Kingfisher, White-throated Kingfisher, Pied Kingfisher, Plaintive Cuckoo, Asian Palm Swift, Darter, Little Cormorant, Chinese Pond Heron, White-breasted Waterhen, Watercock, Common Moorhen, Common Coot, Purple Swamphen, Pheasant-tailed Jacana, Bronze-winged Jacana, Ruddy-breasted Crake, Black-tailed Crake, Brown Crake, Common Snipe, Little Ringed Plover, Red-wattled Lapwing, Grey-headed Lapwing, Brown-headed Gull, Black-headed Gull, Pied Harrier, Shikra, Pied Bushchat, Black Bulbul, Grey-breasted Prinia, Yellow-bellied Prinia, Zitting Cisticola and many more.
