Myeik
Myeik formerly Mergui, is in lower Myanmar. It is situated in Tanintharyi Region of southern part of Myanmar, covering the long narrow southern part of the country on the Kra Isthmus. It borders the Andaman Sea to the west and the Tenasserim Hills, beyond which lies Thailand, to the East. To the North is the Mon State. There are many islands off the coast, the large Mergui Archipelago in the southern and central coastal areas and the smaller Moscos Islands off the northern shores, located in the extreme south of the country on the coast of an island on the Andaman Sea. It has a seaport. It is a small town but it is a very important town in Myanmar. It is also the coastal capital of Coastal Command. The town is close to the sea, so the weather is neither too hot nor too cold. The area of Myeik is 7783 square miles.
For birding, especially Gurney’s Pitta Expedition tour, first flight to Myeik then transfer to Chanug Nauk Pyan village by car, and then transfer to forest camp to see Gurney’s Pitta that found only in south Taninthayi, they prefer primary lowland flat forest below 150 meters, restricted to semi-evergreen rainforest, Sundiac level lowland forest and appears to be associated with secondary forest, the distribution of Peninsular Thailand, can get more opportunities to see some species such as: Gurney’s Pitta, Helmeted Hornbill, Beach Thick-knee, Green Broadbill and many more.
YANGON – MYEIK - YANGON
This package is special program for beautiful Gurney’s Pitta. We will take a trip to Lenya proposed National Park southern of Myeik city which is one of the intact area and home of other species in Tanintharyi (Tenasserim) Region, southern Myanmar.
Day 1: Yangon – Myeik –Yadanarpon Village
After breakfast, our bird guide will pick you up and lead to airport for morning flight from Yangon to Myeik (ETD/ETA 07:15/08:10). Upon our arrival, our driver will welcome us at the airport and we will directly drive to the market place for buying some necessary things and foods for the trip, and then drive to Yadanarpon village. Then, we will have to walk about 2hrs to our camp with porters in the evening. If time allowed, birding will do along the way to our camp. Our camp is exist on the bank of stream with roofed and wooden floor, but will have to sleep in the tent.
Day 2, 3 & 4: Whole day birding
After breakfast, we will walk for bird watching especially for Gurney’s Pitta and other importance species such as Great Hornbill, Helmeted Hornbill, White-crowned Hornbill, Plain-pouched Hornbill and Southern Brown Hornbill. We will have lunch at the camp and then, we will do the birding again until late evening. We will have dinner at the camp. Stay overnight at the camp.
Day 5: Half Day Birding
After breakfast, we will do birding along the way back to Yatanarpon village in the morning and lunch will be at local restaurant on the way to Myeik city. Stay overnight at hotel in Myeik.
Day 6: Myeik – Yangon
After breakfast, checkout from hotel and transfer to the airport for morning flight to Yangon (ETD/ ETA: 08:40/ 09:35). Upon arrival, our driver will pick up at the airport and transfer to the hotel and say goodbye. This trip will be beyond your expectation.
